Steel Pipe Fittings to BS EN 10241:2000 (BS1740-1:1971) Specification
This classification of threaded pipe fittings was previously listed as steel fittings to BS1740-1:1971 and as we discussed in the previous paragraph were known by other names throughout the industry. The present specification BS EN 10241:2000 covers these and other related fittings. These include fittings that were listed under BS1387 which covered items such as plain end bends and screwed and socketed bends at 90°, 112.5°, 135°, 157.5° and 180° and other tubulars including long screws and barrel nipples. The Tensile Strength of seamless and fabricated steel pipe fittings to BS EN 10241:2000 (BS1740:1971) is 320N/mm² and it is generally accepted that the maximum operating pressure is 25 Bar at a maximum temperature of 230°C. BS EN 10241:2000 Steel Pipe Fittings to for Process Steam
Purely from our own experience the most common use of steel pipe fitting to BS EN 10241:2000 (BS1740-1:1971) are on process steam systems in conjunction with steel tube to BS EN 10255:2004 (BS1387:1985). The range of fittings available is not as wide as our malleable iron pipe fittings but still offers all you should ever need to install any low-pressure steam system (0-12Bar). The advantage of using this range of steel pipe fittings to BS EN 10241:2000 (BS1740-1:1971) as opposed to its malleable iron cousin is in the fact that steel pipe fittings have superior mechanical properties including higher tensile strength.
