Steam Pipe from a Specialist Supplier
The term steam pipe can and does mean different things to many businesses and engineers; it has been used for many years to describe a product that can be seamless or welded and for different pressures and temperatures. Here at ValvesTubesFittings.com as a specialist supplier to the process steam community, it means questions. If we supply steam pipe to a customer we usually know the pressure and temperature and in many cases, even the volume of steam being carried because steam for process heat applications can cause issues for the end user if the correct material isn’t provided. The fact is if you have started to read this technical blog on our Website you already have questions and you’ve come to the right place to have them answered.
Installing heat exchangers that use process steam is an efficient choice, heat transfer from process steam, if correctly installed, is reliable and cost-effective and if you know the volume required and the maximum pressure, the steam pipe to feed it is easily sized. To simplify this we have provided on our website the TLV calculator which is an excellent tool to size steam and condense return pipework, or if you would prefer please discuss your installation with our technical sales team who have worked with many end users and contractors over the last 27+ years. A note of caution though, please be aware that steam loads are usually calculated in Kg per hour and when you size a steam pipe the start-up load must always be considered to ensure your equipment receives the correct volume of process steam.
Steam Pipe Low-Pressure Saturated Steam Systems
We consider low-pressure saturated steam to be under 10 bar and in most cases we offer steam pipe in heavy grade BS EN 10255:2004 from 15mm (1/2″) to 150mm (6”) for these systems. This material is available in red primer painted or self-colour finishes and can be purchased from stock in 6.5-metre full random lengths for delivery to the site or by arrangement with our sales team.
The material we carry is manufactured in Europe and is, of course, CE Marked; the majority of what we stock is manufactured by Cayirova Boru San but we also stock material manufactured by Borusan Mannesmann. All steam pipe BS EN 10255:2004 from ValvesTubesFittings.com is now heat marked and traceable and we can offer mill test certificates if required. Please contact us for more information or download our data sheet on this material.
Steam Pipe Higher Pressure Saturated Steam Systems
Steam pipe for what can be considered as higher pressure or better still medium pressure saturated steam systems requires what is often referred to as quality tube; This is usually seamless in the smaller bore sizes and comes under ASTM A106 grade B and for this particular section of our blog in Schedule 40. We would tend to recommend this steam pipe for saturated steam systems above 10 bar and by consulting the pipe data table available on our downloads and calculators page for this product range; the maximum pressure and temperature associated with the schedule (wall thickness) is listed here.
Steam pipe in ASTM A106 grade b hot finished seamless is available from stock here at ValvesTubesFittings.com in 5.8 to 6-metre lengths from 15mm (1/2″) to 300mm (12”) nominal bore. We can also provide a range of flanges, welding fittings, threaded fittings and valves to match any of the steam pipes discussed in these paragraphs. ValvesTubesFittings.com is part of Besseges (Valves, Tubes & Fittings) Ltd a trusted supplier of steam pipe and process steam ancillaries with an excellent reputation as a pipeline, fittings and valves supplier; we look forward to you getting in touch with us.
