Butt Weld Fittings ASME B16.9:2012
Butt weld fittings of this type are described as either ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) or ANSI (American National Standards Institute) and they were previously ASA (American Standards Association) now ANSI. All butt weld fittings manufactured to these standards are available in stock in sizes from 15mm (1/2”) nominal bore to 400mm (16”) nominal bore in standard weight or schedule 40 depending on the size you are looking for. Each schedule describes a specific wall thickness which will carry a specified pressure and temperature depending on the tube or piping product being used to complete the installation.
For sizes and wall thicknesses please download the latest dimension data sheet or pressure and temperature data sheet by clicking the item of your choice, each of these data sheets is also mobile-friendly if you are viewing this on your smartphone. Although Besseges (VTF) Ltd can offer fittings from standard weight walls to double extra strong walls, some of the higher pressure items may be on a longer lead time in other words not always available for next-day or even 48-hour delivery, please contact us for more information.
Butt Weld Fittings BS EN 10253-2:2007
This range of butt weld fittings is the British/European equivalent of the ASME B16.9 product, dimensionally in many sizes they are the same or very similar to their American cousins apart from sizes 65mm (2 ½”) nominal bore and 150mm (6”) nominal bore. In the 65mm size, the OD in butt weld fittings to BS EN 10253-2:2007 is 76.1mm and in the similar ASME specification the OD is 73mm, in 150mm nominal bore the comparison is 165mm OD to 168.3mm OD. Although these differences do exist some businesses mix specifications as there is a substantial cost saving if ASME B16.9:2012 fittings are used on British specification pipe such as a tube to BS EN 10255:2004, the only issue this can cause is a very minor step on the inside diameter of the tube where fitting and tube meet.
This range of butt weld fittings was originally listed as BS1965-1:1963 and used in conjunction with tubes to BS 3601:1974 and BS 1387:1967, none of these specifications exists in modern pipework installation but from a personal perspective, they were still current when I started working in this industry over thirty years ago. Whatever pipe, valve or fitting your business requires we can offer the solution with the added assurance of excellent product knowledge gained over many years, please contact us for all your valve and pipeline requirements.
