EN 1092-1 Flanges Traceable Quality Assured
Besseges (Valves, Tubes and Fittings Ltd with ValvesTubesFittings.com have been a distributor of metric BS EN 1092-1 flanges for nearly three decades. When we started selling this product range they were BS 4504 and if and when they alter again slightly following our departure from the European Union, we will still offer this range. The difference between what we offer and some of our competitors’ supply could be of superior quality. At the time of writing this blog one of our main competitors; has taken the step of supplying material that is not traceable.
We believe this is a retrograde step and not worthy of the industry as a whole. In the modern era, traceability is a key part of pipeline supply; because we are all working to the requirements of so many standards. Pipeline installations are designed to ensure trouble-free service for the end user, but sometimes work doesn’t go to plan. In these circumstances, this is when the correct certification and traceability is important.
EN 1092-1 Flanges Traceability
When the work has been completed and a product fails, it’s in everyone’s interest to find the cause. If the test certification is 3.1b, it will be traceable material to the date of manufacture and the material used is traceable to the original manufacturer. This will tell you the history of this material and if there have been other product failures. If it is the first product failure it will be investigated and resolved by the supplier and their manufacturer.
If the test certification is as one of our competitors is offering only 2.2 certificates. This product has no batch traceability or can be traced to the original manufacturer of the material. So, if there have been multiple product failures this will not be apparent and although the individual product can be tested; the other flanges installed at the same time could be from different batches or even manufacturers. Without traceability you have a conundrum, is each of the EN 1092-1 flanges installed going to be subject to the same issue or not?
If the EN 1092-1 flanges installed all have the same cast number this will then tell you whether all were made from the same material or not. Then this could indicate whether there is possibly a common fault or not. Untraceable material EN 1092-1 flanges with 2.2 certification offer no such answer, leaving the installer with a condemned installation when the problem may be a one-off issue. Therefore, we believe that responsible merchants will only offer traceable material when it is available; and inform the installers or end users that what they are offering is certified but not traceable.
EN 1092-1 Flanges 3.1b or 2.2 Certification
To clear up any confusion over the two types of certification available for EN 1092-1 flanges. EN 1092-1 flanges with BS EN 10204:2004 3.1b certification allow for flanges, in this case, to be confirmed as traceable material and include the results of specific inspections. EN 1092-1 Flanges with 2.2 certificates are a statement of compliance based on non-specific inspections by the manufacturer which do not offer product traceability.
The only similarity I can draw from this is a letter of conformity; a document that brings to the customers’ attention, the supplier or manufacturer’s statement. That a product conforms to the relevant standard required by the customer or end-user, without specific material tests being performed by either party.
Therefore, so many businesses will not accept letters of conformity for products supplied on work which adhere to the requirements of national or common directives. However, some of these products are often CE or Kite Marked quality products and are manufactured to strict standards. So, suppose an installer finds that a letter of conformity is not acceptable. In that case, a 2.2 certificate that does not correlate with the flange installed is surely no better than the letter of conformity so often rejected by the same installers.
EN 1092-1 Flanges S235JR Material
We have supplied for some considerable time EN 1092-1 flanges in S235JR material with each flange made from the specific batch material. The traceable flange batch has a common cast number and is supplied with a BS EN 10204:2004 3.1b Test Certificate. We believe this should be the minimum requirement for installations under specific Pressure Equipment Directives. EN 1092-1 flanges S235JR material are available in plate, bossed, threaded bossed and weld neck versions from stock.
EN 1092-1 Flanges Other Products
We often work with process steam installations and with the lack of an industry body to oversee those working in the industry. It is the duty of specialist suppliers to ensure that the material offered is to the right standard. For this reason, we offer the industry medium to higher pressure steam systems 3.1b certified ASTM A106 grade b tube.
For lower pressure systems we still offer BS EN 10255:2004 heavy-weight steam tubes, but even this material is now 3.1 certified when purchased from ValvesTubesFittings.com or Besseges (Valves, Tubes & Fittings) Ltd. It is important that we endeavour to offer all the alternatives to the pipeline industry, to ensure we are a rounded and efficient supplier.
Whatever pipeline products you require, both of our businesses are becoming leading lights in the UK pipeline industry. Our long-serving staff are a testament to the success of our company, making us an attractive and sought-after supplier.
