Valve and Pipeline Supplier 30th Anniversary

An assortment of valves and pipe fittings covering many sizes and materials.

Thirty years ago, this week, the company behind ValvesTubesFittings.com opened for business; Besseges (Valves, Tubes & Fittings) Ltd became an independent limited company on the 1st of October 1988. Under the current managing director, the business started life as a small merchant in James Howe Mill, Ashton under Lyne and quickly grew into a busy local valve and pipeline supplier. Before the end of the first year, we had expanded the staff and put a representative on the road to bring in new business.

The outside salesman is still working for the business and writing this blog to celebrate the first thirty years of trading, although if we trade for another thirty years I will, of course, be retired and in my dotage. This business from employing just four people now has a total staff of sixteen people, across many disciplines. We have our directors, external sales team, sales office, accounts department, IT and web as well as our excellent warehouse team. All working together to ensure we offer our growing customer base everything they need from a valve and pipeline supplier.

Valve and Pipeline Supplier Expanding for the Future

The business that is now Besseges (Valves, Tubes & Fittings) Ltd is hardly recognisable from that company back in the late 1980s. Our warehouse then is now the space we use to store our welding fittings, space which back then held everything we stocked. Our pipe rack was outside with enough space to stock a few lengths of each size; these days in our main warehouse we cannot carry even a month’s stock. A second warehouse now holds the majority of our steel and stainless steel tube stock holding.

Our growing business at thirty is an impressive and well-run valve and pipeline supplier, a distributor for respected brands such as Genebre and TLV. We offer a one-stop shop that allows our customers to complete the majority of pipeline installations across many industries. Shop with Tameside and Manchester’s leading valve and pipeline supplier and you won’t be disappointed. The pipeline industry has changed a great deal over the past decade and because of this we’ve not stood still, we have modernised with it to ensure that we offer relevant and current innovations.

Valve and Pipeline Supplier Evolving

A copper press fitting being installed with an automated pressing machine Pipeline products have evolved, threaded pipework is commonly less used in modern larger bore installations. In the compressed air industry aluminium tube and push-fit fittings have become the norm; although we still sell a great deal of galvanised medium screwed and socketed, with malleable iron fittings. We don’t know if the days of the threading machine are numbered or not; as the installation industry is still geared up for that method.

The same can be said with the growing use of M-profile press fittings from manufacturers such as M-Press, Geberit, Sanha and Yorkshire Xpress. Press fittings with battery technology constantly improving are a simple and efficient method of installing water and gas in public and industrial buildings. A correctly installed product from M-Press has a warranty of forty years if completed in stainless steel.

It would be difficult to find a better warranty with another manufacturer, even when discussing similar material from other providers; and probably impossible in another type of installation achieving the same end. What we offer provides confidence for installers and their customers in producing top-quality finished pipeline systems. As a leading independent valve and pipeline supplier, we offer a great deal more than your current outlets; why not contact our sales team and find out?

Valve and Pipeline Supplier Technical Sales

What we have learnt from thirty years of dealing with some great customers is their appreciation of a valve and pipeline supplier that knows what it’s talking about. Double block and bleed valves installed on a process steam system as per our technical teams recommendation
We have many competitors who over the years have relied heavily on the catalogue sales culture; with one managing director of a leading pipeline supplier saying we want to be the Argos of the pipeline industry. They became that, having a sales team of people asking what part number would you like. Over 10 years, they sank into oblivion and were ultimately sold off by their parent business as they were unprofitable.

Besseges (Valves, Tubes & Fittings) Ltd aren’t by any means a perfect business, but we have learnt from our mistakes and grown not only financially. We have grown in stature and experience and because of how the company is managed retained our excellent team across sales, warehousing and accounts. This experience is what makes us an excellent and knowledgeable business, often unmatched across the industry. Talk to our technical sales team about your next project and we can discuss how installations can be improved for compressed air, process steam or even handrails to name just a few.

Valve and Pipeline Supplier the Next Thirty Years

As I am approaching 55 years, my time with this business is limited now, but we already have the next generation learning and growing within the company. Our once apprentices are now leading members of the expanding team that services and assists new and old customers. Their achievements and growing knowledge are the future of Besseges (Valves, Tubes & Fittings) Ltd and ValvesTubesFittings.com. I left the expansion into eCommerce to these last paragraphs because this is the newest part of our journey as a company.

We have invested time and energy into both of our websites as they bring in new customers; not just from across the United Kingdom but from across the World. We’re a business that in the beginning traded almost entirely in the Tameside and Manchester area. In recent times we have supplied material to businesses as far afield as the United States and the Caribbean and as close to home as Scotland and the European Union.

Valve and Pipeline Supplier the Journey Continues

So, the next thirty years will move this business to explore many more innovations not yet seen in the pipeline industry. We as a valve and pipeline supplier will be at the forefront of new technology; maybe even coming up with one of these innovations ourselves. Working with our customer base over the last thirty years has allowed us to improve pipework systems for many businesses; something we will continue to do. We thank all our customers, past and present for being part of our journey as a company and hope you will continue your relationships with us.
